IP Lookup vs Domain Lookup
An IP lookup focuses on public ownership, ASN, netblock, and reverse-DNS-style context for an IP address. A domain lookup focuses on DNS behavior, record types, mail routing, and domain-related infrastructure.
Use IP lookup when
- You already have an IP address
- You want ASN or ownership context
- You want reverse DNS clues
Use domain lookup when
- You are checking DNS records
- You want mail, TXT, NS, MX, CNAME, or certificate clues
- You are troubleshooting a website or email domain
Best practice
Use both together when possible. Domains and IPs often explain different parts of the same infrastructure story.
